Before a user can begin scouting using Cropwise Protector, fields must be mapped and crops assigned. This article will walk users through the step by step process of mapping fields and assigning crops in Farm settings for Cropwise Protector.
Table of Contents:
Adding Farms and Fields
First, the user must navigate to Farm Settings, which is "app.cropwise.com" or could be accessed by clicking HERE. Once on Farm Settings, the user will need to click on the Organization tile they wish to map out the fields for.
Once within the organization, click on the green New Farm button to add a new farm, or select the farm in the list that the user wishes to add fields under.
Enter the farm name and location and click the green Save button.
Users will then be able to manually add and draw field boundaries or import the farm field tree from a shapefile taken out of another software.
To add new field(s), Click on the green +New field button.
A list of mapping options will appear for the user to choose from based on how they would like to map the fields.
- Insert Size is NOT a valid option and does not need to be selected since there must be a field boundary mapped in order to scout in Cropwise Protector.
Importing Field Boundaries
To import the Farm Field Tree boundaries from another software, click the Import tile.
After selecting Import, the user will then need to upload or click and drag the Zipped shapefile, from their desktop or flash drive, to the import window. Then, the field boundaries and names will be entered.
- The SHP file MUST be in a Zipped folder for the field boundaries to be imported successfully.
- If the user is uploading geojson file, it will need to be in an unzipped folder.
It's important to note that when a user is importing shapefiles, ALL shapes will be uploaded under one farm. So when importing a whole farm field tree, the import will not break out the boundaries by farm on it's own. The fields will either need to all be imported under a single farm, or the fields be imported individually.
Manually Drawing Boundaries
The user can manually draw field boundaries by selecting the Draw tile.
First, enter a name for the field that will be mapped. By using the Polygon drawing tool, users will be able to click on the map and drop points along the field boundary. To finish the boundary, double click the mouse on the last point or click on the first point to enclose the shape.
The field acres will be populated by what was mapped but users are able to enter an adjusted size and manually update the acres. Once complete, click the green Save button at the bottom of the screen.
