A methodology is the library of insects, weeds, and diseases (per crop) that is used to collect scouting data within the Protector Scouting app. A methodology determines what is being scouted, how it's being scouted, and how the results of the scouting data will be displayed in the Protector web panel or the Protector Analytics app.
A methodology is customizable and different data points can be added to a scouting methodology depending on what the user would like to capture concerning their operation.
Data points are broken into categories when creating a methodology and these categories help separate information to allow for specific evaluations to be entered into the users methodology.
These categories include:
Phenomenon: What is being scouted.
Examples - insects, weeds, diseases, soil moisture, emergence, canopy coverage, nutrient deficiencies, field conditions, etc.
Characteristic: How it is being scouted.
Examples - number of insects per plant, Number of insects per 10ft of row, pressure being low, medium, or high, percentage of infestation, Percent of damage, etc.
Maximum Value: The highest value that can be entered.
Maximum value allowed for data entry. The allowed range for entry will be: Zero -> Maximum Value
Control Threshold: A threshold that indicates a control action is needed before damage occurs.
A data point within this threshold is visible as YELLOW in the Protector web portal or the Protector Analytics app.
Damage Threshold: A threshold that indicates the infestation caused damage and can be causing financial losses.
A data point within this threshold is visible as RED in the Protector web portal or the Protector Analytics app.
Inspection Group: A group of characteristics that are displayed together while scouting.
Each inspection group gathers all the characteristics collected at the same sample point.
Once a scouting methodology is assigned to a user's organization and a crop is assigned, the user can scout fields within the Protector Scouting app.
The methodology will appear under the green "Scout" tile along the bottom of the screen.
