Within the Cropwise Sustainability Assessment, there are questions that are directly used in an effort to estimate Carbon emissions across the operation. These questions are marked with a Carbon indicator, as shown in the examples below.
The full list of Carbon related questions includes:
- Did you use an emissions inhibitor during this growing season?
- Which types of fertilizer did you use this year?
- How much of each type of Nitrogen did you use this year?
- What was your average output for your primary crop?
- What crop protection products did you apply during this growing season?
- What type of irrigation system is used?
- What was your average irrigation water applied to your crop
- What percent of no-till or direct drilling acres continuous in the same field (year on year)?
- What is your predominant soil type closest to?
- What range does your soil organic matter fall into? This information can come from your most recent soil test or an estimate.
- How did you manage your crop residue?
After completing and submitting the Assessment, navigate to the Carbon menu.
Cropwise Sustainability partners with the Cool Farm Tool to estimate carbon emissions based on the farming practices described in the Assessment and your location. Select Continue to provide consent for this process.
Select the Assessment to use in the Carbon estimate and Continue.
Click Set Location to continue in the process.
Set the location using the device location, or through selecting a location on the map.
Click the full-screen button in the upper right of the map screen, assign the location, and click Save.
Select the recently created Location and Continue.
The report may take up to 5 minutes to generate. After selecting Continue the status will be marked as In Progress until it's ready.
Once the Carbon report is available, select the Download icon to view the report. The report contains estimated carbon emissions based on the Assessment answers and Location.
After downloading the report, a PDF report that breaks down the data of the estimated Carbon emissions. To share the report, click on the blue arrow in the top-right corner of the screen. Then, select how to send the report, whether it's through text, email, or another form of communication.
